Deering Estate at Cutler A truly unique park in South Florida, the grand Deering Estate at Cutler provides breathtaking views of Biscayne Bay and transports you to a different era. Part of the Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation Department, the 450-acre environmental, historical, and archeological preserve has an array of activities for nature lovers to enjoy, including a 1.5-mile guided tour of the Parks’ lush natural areas. During the tour, walk through the heart of the tropical hardwood hammock and see an array of native Florida species. An ancient Tequesta burial mound serves as a resting place for twelve to eighteen chieftains from as long ago as the 1500s. Tours of the historic houses—the picturesque Richmond Cottage and Charles Deering’s majestic Mediterranean-style Stone House—are offered daily. Quarterly art exhibits, weekend and moonlit canoe rides to Chicken Key, and birding programs lead by the Park’s Naturalist staff are open to the public.
