Porcão Steakhouse Restaurant

Porcão first opened its doors in 1975 on Avenida Brasil in Rio de Janeiro, under the name of Churrascaria Riograndense. After only six months, a strong windstorm destroyed the restaurant's sign, and because they were a new, struggling business, management couldn't replace the sign immediately. The restaurant was located next door to the São Sebastião market, formerly Casas da Banha, whose logo was a picture of a big pig.  Customers started to identify the restaurant by its neighbor's logo "let's go eat at the big pig's!"
Porcão here, Porcão there, now a popular restaurant with the sign of the pig, it became a familiar name among the restaurant's owners and customers. Eight months later, the restaurant had become a success, expanded to offer seating for 200, and it was time for the space to undergo a vast renovation and to replace the old destroyed outdoor sign.  By that time the name Porcão had become their new name by popular demand.
Since that time, Porcão has grown non-stop.  In 1976, a new restaurant was built on Avenida Brasil where clients formed long lines every day at lunchtime. The neighboring vicinity in the well-known São Sebastião market also attracted many customers.
A second restaurant was opened in 1978 on Avenida Bom Sucesso, with immediate success, from its first day forward. Two years later, Porcão opened the location it considers its headquarters, known as Porcão da Ilha, at Ilha do Governador. That same year, Porcão at Ipanema was opened.  Porcão subsequently opened in other cities including da Barra, Niterói and others.
Restaurateurs from Germany, France and Italy began to show interest in opening Porcão in their countries. Milan was chosen as the city first European location, and Porcão achieved immediate success with a full house every day. From Milan, the chain grew to Rome, from Italy to Switzerland, then to the United States and soon, to Portugal.
Porcão's beginnings were indeed modest as restaurant with an accidental name, but that hasn't stopped the chain from achieving popular success in the international marketplace.
